چکیده
Lake Urmia Basin (LUB), in northwestern Iran, is under the influence of extreme degradation due to a number natural and anthropogenic factors. The existence critical for microclimate region as well quality human life wildlife, which necessitates an up-to-date holistic analysis its hydrological dynamics. In this premise, satellite-based Terrestrial Water Storage (TWS) received from GRACE mission was coupled with hydrometeorological modeling assessment tools analyze status lake basin. As new gap-filling approach, Seasonal-Trend decomposition using Locally estimated scatterplot smoothing (LOESS) (STL) technique proposed study reconstruct missing TWS data. Integrating satellite precipitation data Catchment Land Surface Model (CLSM) WaterGAP model outputs, investigated. STL-based turned out concord simulated CLSM indicating acceptable performance technique. findings revealed that LUB had undergone alarming situation 2003 2021 total loss 10 km3 7.56 groundwater storage (GWS), respectively. water level time series also indicated diminished annual rate −70 ± 21 cm/yr corresponding depletion about 13.35 3.9 m during 2003-2021 period. GRACE-derived GWS agreed simulations. Assessment events suggested basin suffered severe dry event 2008 resulting level. It found onward, setting dominated negative balance −0.96 km3.

Drying of Urmia Lake: modeling of level fluctuations
Background: Urmia Lake, the second largest hyper-saline lake of the world, has experienced lack of water and other environmental issues in recent years. Now, there is a danger of the lake drying out, which will affect the region and its inhabitants. This study aimed to present a model which can relate the water level of the lake to effective factors. Methods: Parameters that influence water le...
متن کاملModeling Past Episodes of Erosion in the Lake Orūmiye (Urmia) Basin: Analogues for Future Landscape Dynamics
During the Holocene Lake Orūmiye has been subjected to significant changes in climate. These have impacted the surround vegetation and runoff, and erosion rates of the surrounding basin. Shifts in seasonal rainfall from winter to summer dominated patterns have resulted in dramatic changes in the Orūmiye Basin’s vegetation cover from grass to shrub dominated communities. The degree of ground sur...
متن کاملCharacterization of saline dust emission resulted from Urmia Lake drying
Compared with common dust storms, saline dust storms transport high concentrations of fine-grain saline and alkaline material. The saline dust storm differs from common dust storm, especially considering the sources of the suspended particulate matter (PM), chemical composition, grain size, and circulation processes. Atmospheric particulate matters (TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1) and their water-so...
متن کاملBiodiversity of Hyphomycetes in soils of Urmia lake basin
Biodiversity of soil fungi was explored in soils of the National Park of Urmia Lake. For this purpose, 46 soil samples were collected from 5–15 cm depth and isolation was made using soil dilution plate and Warcup soil plate methods. Fungal isolates were identified based on cultural and morphological criteria. The results obtained in this study revealed that there is a rich diversity among hypho...
متن کاملtrend analysis of meteorological and hydrological variables in urmia lake basin by use of non-parametric methods
global warming has brought about changes in meteorological variable time series. these changes, accompanied with serious human intervention in nature, has resulted in hydrological changes. so the effects can be tracked down by the trend of the time series. the purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the monthly and annual trends of temperature, precipitation as well as stream flow time ...
